About the Book
The ancient site of Begho in the Brong-Ahafo region of Ghana is potentially
one of the most important sites in that country. It was a town which had
considerable importance as an entrepôt from the Middle Ages until
its abandonment - perhaps in the eighteenth century and there is more
information about it from historical sources than from most towns in West
Africa of similar date. Mr. Crossland's study of the pottery from an area
excavated at Begho will greatly help in understanding the archaeology
and provide useful comparisons with pottery of other places.
