About the Book

This book guides readers through the process of exploring and staging a successful play when using a foreign language. Incorporating a wide array of subjects pertaining to planning, producing, analyzing, and theorizing theatre, this edition includes valuable strategies for re-creating theatre for students whose first language is not French. From the collaborative aspects of rewriting the original dramatic text, to performance semiotics, the organization of rehearsal schedules and evaluation of student-actors,
The French Play is a unique step-by-step guide to the demands and challenges of producing a foreign language play. Aimed at university drama students, this book will also appeal to scholars of performance and dramatic staging, as well as teachers of literature, especially foreign-language and English-as-a-second-language practitioners who require a strong theoretical and critical approach to literature and drama in a foreign language
