About the Book

This book is essential reading for all teachers, graduate students, school administrators, and trustees who require information concerning the current legal affairs of schools in Canada. The authors address both theoretical and practical issues. This discussion ranges from such topics as freedom of expression, the right of association, and mandatory retirement, to working with police, monitoring school newspapers, and enforcing school rules.

Landmark court cases are analyzed in the context of the Charter and advice is provided for administrators. The book functions as a primer in school law, the sources of law, and private and public law. There are sections on provincial and federal courts, students' rights, search and seizure, police and young offenders, minority language rights, religion in the public schools, and teachers' rights.

This second edition of School Law Under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms has been thoroughly revised to provide information on the latest cases to come before the courts. A Table of Cases has been added so that the reader may quickly locate relevant case information.
