About the Book

Thirteen challenging essays represent three major philosophical interests: the philosophy of religion, the work of David Hume, and issues of personal identity and the problem of survival. The essays are challenging; the contributors disagree among themselves and with Terence Penelhum. Penelhum's characteristically colourful, detailed and cogent response to each essay in a final essay ensures that genuine progress is made in each of the central areas under consideration.

The book is of interest to both specialist and non-specialist.

Terence Penelhum was dean of Arts and Science from 1964 to 1967 and head of the Philosophy Department from 1964 to 1970 at the University of Calgary. From 1978 to 1988 he was professor in the Department of Religious Studies; he has been Professor Emeritus since 1988.
