In order to make life better not only for ourselves but for future generations, we have to think change. It would be a far fitter society if we make use of viable modes of alternative transportation when and where its convenient for us to do it. Shifting Gears was designed for junior and senior high school students to encourage them to question and discuss their current modes of transportation and to evaluate the many alternatives available to them. This program is essential viewing for urban planners, city administrators and environmentalists as well.
Shifting Gears looks at examples from The Netherlands China and where the bike is either the primary mode of transport or co-exists with the car.

At no other time in human history has it become so apparent that we must reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. In Canada and in the rest of the developed world we are learning about the economic limitations and environmental problems related to our transportation decisions.
